With 2018 coming to a close, the gratitude we have to our team who made 2018 our best year yet is IMMENSE. Between record-breaking customer acquisitions rates to watching the growth of our team members professionally, this year easily takes the cake as our best year in business yet. One special young woman made a very big impact on our company this year, so much that we wanted to share her story and experience with 45 Inc Birmingham in this exclusive Q&A!
Kim, congrats on being this month’s featured team member! Tell us more about yourself!
I was born in Sylacauga, Alabama and raised in Harpersville! Despite being athletically inclined, I was pretty introverted as a kid. I played basketball, volleyball, and was even involved in my high school’s color guard and JROTC. I owe a lot of credit to my discipline to JROTC, as it was that organization that helped me develop my ability to work well with others and reminded me to work hard for the things I want in life! I remember Sargent Hall telling me “perfect practice makes perfect” and I’ve used that motto to fuel me my whole career.
You have a great background. Will you share how you found 45 Inc?
It took me a few jobs to find 45 Inc, but each was a stepping stone to get me there. When I reflect that my first job was at Vulcan Binder making $6/hr to where I have come now, I can’t help but be proud. After working at Honda, Walmart, Voith, Kasai, I was contacted by 45 Inc about my resume and since March, I feel as if I’m at home.
What were your first thoughts when starting with the company and how would you describe the culture?
My first thoughts were full of excitement because I was doing something out of my comfort zone. One unique thing that really blew me away was my being able to work and interact with the CEO of the company on a daily basis. I would describe the culture as friendly, very similar to a large family, Everyone is very goal oriented, promotes teamwork, and has a high level of respect for each other around the office. I never thought I would be working in a field such as this one, but now that I’m here, I can’t imagine myself anywhere else.
What have you learned since working with 45 Inc?
I’ve learned so much with doing this type of work, such as speaking in front of people, knowing how to connect with different kinds of people on different levels, and conducting interviews. I never thought I would be the person interviewing someone else, but it feels great.
This career has changed me as a person. I now have a strong sense of identity, am now capable of rising to whatever challenges that come, and now have the knowledge, talent, and potential necessary to succeed.
What goals do you have with the company?
My goals with the company are to become a successful business owner, providing the same opportunity that 45 Inc has given to me. I am so fortunate to have amazing mentors outside of work and inside the office and know I will be able to go far with their faith in me and dose of hard love when I need it.
Last question! What do you do for fun outside of the office?!
I usually hang out with my family and friends when I’m not working; being around them is all the fun this girl needs. One of my best memories with the company was being thrown a surprise birthday party for my 33rd birthday. It was so nice and really reminded me that my colleagues are like my second family.
